After storm Hector brought strong winds and heavy rain to Merseyside during the week, people across the region were hoping for the sunshine to return this weekend.

But it’s going to be quite the opposite, weather fronts containing heavy thundery rain will track across the region through Saturday.

Rain is expected throughout most of the day and Met office forecasts point to a risk of thunderstorm around midday on Saturday.

The Met Office say: “Patchy rain in the morning will intensify, bringing some heavy and perhaps thundery outbursts.

“Skies will brighten up in the afternoon, though further showers may pop up over the hills. Maximum temperature 16 °C.”

The weather will dry up through Sunday, but the sunshine will fail to return until Monday.
