BOS Musical Theatre Company are excited to present our latest show ‘9 to 5’, which will be staged at The Little Theatre, Hoghton Street, Southport, from Saturday 7th – 14th October 2017.

Based on the hit film of the same name, this musical is full of boot stomping Dolly Parton hits!

9 to 5’ tells the story of three women who learn that there’s nothing they can’t do, even in a man’s world!

Violet (Heather Lewis), Judy (Hannah Johnson) and Dora lee (Lauren Millar) have had enough of Franklyn Hart Jnr (Dom Tolley), the sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot that they call a boss! They concoct a plan to get even and give their boss and his assistant Roz (Michelle Hopwood) the boot! Whilst he is ‘otherwise engaged’ they live out their wildest dreams, giving their workplace a makeover and taking control of the company that had always kept them down.  ‘9 to 5’ features new music from super star country singer ‘Dolly Parton’.  As well as the classic title song, this musical displays the true fight of feminism in a world over powered by men.

Our cast and ensemble consist of members new and old.  Heather Lewis (Violet) is an experienced stalwart of BOSMTC and has performed many lead roles over her 20 years with the company. Lauren and Dom have been members for 2 years and have performed several principle roles. Dom plays the part of Franklyn Hart Jnr; who, in the show, tries every trick in the book to persuade Dora lee to “accept his advances”.  Dora lee is wise to Hart and refuses to be taken in by his trickery, telling him that if he didn’t leave her alone, she would get her gun and turn him from a rooster to a hen with one shot!  Thankfully, in real life, Dom didn’t have to endure this treatment and had a little more luck in his pursuit of Lauren. Dom and Lauren met at the society during ‘Oliver!’, where after months of pursuing Lauren, she did finally gave in to his advances and they are now boyfriend and girlfriend!  We’re sure the wonderful chemistry they have as a couple will ‘Shine like the sun’ onstage!

Hannah and Michelle joined the company more recently and will be performing their first principle roles for BOS mtc.

Hannah told us “I’ve been involved with BOSMTC for just over two years taking part in Oliver and The Wizard of Oz, both as a chorus member, but ‘9 to 5’ is my first ever principle role which I’m really excited about. I have always loved Musical Theatre, but there aren’t that many groups in Bootle to get involved with. I then went to watch a BOS mtc production of ‘Hairspray’ and I was hooked. I really wanted to be a part of it, even though it meant travelling from Bootle to Southport several times a week, it’s been worth it!  In 9 to 5, I will be playing the part of Judy Bernly. This is a really challenging role but I get to sing some amazing songs and have some really funny lines. I am also really enjoying working alongside the other principle actors as well as our brilliant chorus. There aren’t really many similarities between Judy and me; she’s never worked a day in her life, whereas I love my job as a teaching assistant in a nursery school in Bootle. Poor Judy is dealing with her husband leaving her while I’m getting married next year! Finally, Judy fantasises about killing her boss and I am yet to have that desire (honestly Mrs Early!). This musical is one of the most challenging shows I have ever been involved in but it is going to be incredible. Every cast member has worked so hard and we have an amazing production team who are making sure that we put on a fantastic show”.

Our team have worked tirelessly to create an amazingly uplifting, show, which will attack the senses with wonderful costumes, music, singing, dancing which will leave you exhilarated as you leave the theatre!  We hope you have as much fun watching our show, as we have had producing it!!
