Thundery showers and unsafe weather conditions across the North West coast have led to the cancellation of some planned displays at today’s Southport Air Show.
While organisers say the show must go on, they remain with one eye on the weather forecast.
Bad weather, along with technical issues, mean the RAF Tutor, Wing walkers and the Battle of Britain Memorial flights won’t happen.
Bleak weather reports which forecast heavy rain showers and even lightning later today in Southport have left event organisers watching the clouds. However they remain optimistic that the mainstay of the show will continue.
The decision taken this morning is not unusual, with previous years also being affected by changing conditions.
With aircraft taking off from different locations along the coast it’s not just the weather in Southport that has to be taken into account.
In recent years a Red Arrows display was cancelled after the runway at Blackpool Airport proved to be too wet for the planes to safely take off.
