Following controversial calls to end free newspapers in Southport to save the environment, campaigners are now calling for Southport Air Show to be banned.
An anonymous green campaigner from Birkdale has said the council need to put an end to the annual air show to save the planet.
they said “Words almost fail me.
Whilst I agree banning of balloons and lanterns as an environmentally good step for- ward along with the council declaring a climate emergency, I cannot for the life of me understand how it is then somehow ok to have an air show!
Aeroplanes are known to be just about the most environmentally un-friendly things on our planet so how then can our so-called climate-friendly council justify bringing this event to our shore?
Either the council really is environmentally-conscious and really does want to act on climate change, or it is simply being so when it suites.
You can’t have it both ways, except, it seems, when it comes to bringing in tourists from far and wide to click up visitor numbers.
I would like the council to respond to my concerns and for them to justify why it is ok to have scores of climate- damaging aeroplanes in the skies above Southport, but not balloons.”
