Armed robbers target Eighty Eight Bar & Brasserie on Lord Street, Southport

Merseyside Police detectives are appealing for information after an armed robbery in Southport in the early hours of this morning (Monday, 3 July).

Around 12.30am, a call was received from a member of staff at Bar 88 on Lord Street that four men had entered the location and made threats to staff. The men made demands for money and cash was taken. Nobody was injured in the incident.

The men are described as wearing dark clothing, gloves and facial coverings, and in possession of weapons described as including a bat and knife. It is initially believed that the men drive off in a dark vehicle towards the direction of Southport Market.

Forensic, CCTV and vehicle enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and identify those responsible.

Detective Inspector Steve Reardon said: “This was a cowardly attack on people going about their business in the community. The members of staff were thankfully unhurt but understandably distressed to be threatened in this way.

“I would appeal to anyone who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area around midnight to contact us immediately. There may be members of the public who were passing in their vehicles and recorded dash-cam footage of men close to the bar or driving off, and any piece of information or footage, however small, may be vital for our investigation.

“I want to reassure all residents and businesses that incidents like this are rare and we will do everything possible to identify the offenders and bring him them justice, and ensure that Southport continues to be a safe place to live, work and visit.”

Anyone with information is asked to call 101. You can also call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously and for free on 0800 555 111 or via their online form: https://crimestoppers-uk.org/give-information/give-information-online.

Three men equipped with gun and machete raid Crossens Convenience Store

Armed raiders equipped with a gun and a huge machete have stolen in excess of £200 in a daring dawn raid on a Freshway Convenience Store on Rufford Road, Crossens (Sunday 18 June 2017).

Three men targeted the convenience store just as it was opening up around 7.30 am and threatened workers with a gun and what is reported to be a machete before stealing a handful of cash and cigarettes.

The shop assistant suffered an injury to their face during the incident and has been left badly shaken up by their ordeal. One of the men was wearing a grey North Face hooded top, dark grey shorts and black and white trainers and the second one was wearing a black North Face hooded top, black bottoms and black shoes. Both had green scarves covering their faces and were carrying a green drawstring bag. It is believed they turned left when they exited the shop and then turned right into Brade Street.

Armed police and sniffer dogs have been called to the scene to search for the weapons after the men fled the scene and fled in the direction of Preston New Road. A manhunt is now underway.
