The Grasshopper micropub in Hillside celebrates its 3rd Birthday this weekend with a St Patrick’s Day themed party on Saturday night.

The micropub has enjoyed a very successful first three years – picking up a number of awards from beer connoisseurs including the Summer Pub of the Year, the CAMRA Pub of the Year for North Merseyside and most recently was awarded the CAMRA Cider Pub of the Year for 2019.

The micropub always attempts to offer new and interesting beers for its customers and this weekend willsee another milestone reached when they will serve beer from the 100th different brewery. The honour will go to Crankshaft Brewery from Leyland who have produced a special Stout for St Patrick’s night. It is called Leyland Badger and weighs in at hefty 5.5% ABV.

The list of breweries includes all of the local breweries for Southport and environs including Southport Brewery, Red Star Brewery, Parkers brewery and the fledgling brewery in Ainsdale – Tyton Brewery.

David Lands, of CAMRA said, “The days when a pub would serve beer from the same brewery for years on end have gone. CAMRA has campaigned to increase customer choice and the variety of beer served at the Grasshopper shows how successful we have been. The beer scene is changing quickly and new and exciting breweries are opening frequently.”
