Two arrested in Southport immigration raid

Immigration officers arrested two people after a raid in Southport this afternoon, Wednesday, March 8 2017.

A 32-year-old woman and a 36-year-old man and a were detained following the raid on London Street.

Under EU rules, citizens have free movement between countries but must not ‘become a burden on the state” after a period of three months.

The two arrested, both originally from Poland, had breached rules which state they must be either employed, self-employed, self-sufficient or in full time-education after the three month period.

Immigration officers have now begun the process of deporting them.
