26th November 2015

The Sefton Open exhibition returns to The Atkinson this weekend and the Gallery team are busy installing the work for the grand opening on Saturday November 28.

The 2014 exhibition received a record number of submissions to the exhibition, with over 950 pieces entered.

Stephen Whittle; Principle Manager Museums & Galleries said:
“This year is a special occasion because the Southport Palette Club, who select the entries from individual artists, are organising their 90th exhibition.

The Sefton Open is also a wonderful chance for art groups and societies to exhibit together and to showcase their work. Art groups from Ainsdale, Birkdale, Maghull and Southport are all represented in the biggest celebration of Sefton’s creativity ever seen.

Every year the team at The Atkinson are surprised at the number and the quality of the work that are submitted, but this year, the exhibition seems to have really caught the imagination of Sefton.”

The exhibition on display at The Atkinson, on Lord Street in Southport, opens from 10 a.m. on Saturday November 28 with a welcoming speech at 1.00 p.m. and is a chance for visitors to discover the wealth of artistic talent right here in Sefton.

The exhibition will be on display in The Atkinson galleries and is made up from work of local artists who live or work or study in Sefton.

The Sefton Open is a great opportunity to purchase your very own unique piece of artwork and with a wide variety of work on show, ranging from large-scale sculpture to textiles, ceramics and paintings – there is a huge choice!

This year there is a £100 people prize for the artwork voted most popular by visitors, so don’t forget to cast your vote when you visit!

The Sefton Open is on display until Saturday December 19.
