Prince William, the son of Princess Diana, has given his full backing to the removal of a memorial fountain to make way for an incredible and lasting legacy garden in the town centre, OTS News understands.
Images unveiled yesterday depict a redesigned Town Hall Gardens which will be billed as a ‘open air child and family friendly’ events space, with the familes of Elsie Dot Stancombe, Bebe King and Alice Aguiar set to lead the regeneration.
The Government will provide £5m of the expected £10m cost, with Sefton Council and Liverpool City Region each providing £2.5m worth of funding.
Work is expected to begin next year, with the renovated gardens to be opened in 2027.
While the project has been welcomed by residents, some have asked what will now happen to the Princess Diana Fountain, situated in the centre of the existing gardens.
The existing water feature, is not included in the artistic impressions.
OTS News has learned that in meetings with both The King, His Royal Highness King Charles III and the Prince of Wales, Prince William they both gave their complete backing to the regeneration project.
A Council spokesperson confirmed to OTS News that while a full public consultation and engagement process on the project will take place, consideration has been given to the removal of the fountain.
