Result: Woking 1-2 Southport

by
4th October 2015

A first-half brace from Cole Stockton helped Southport to only their second win of the season against Woking.

21-year-old Stockton, a loanee from Tranmere, scored inside the opening 10 minutes with a low strike.

The striker doubled Southport’s lead in the 17th minute with a finish from close-range from a Louis Almond corner.

Woking midfielder Keiran Murtagh pulled one back with a header 12 minutes from time, but Southport held on to move above Torquay and into 21st place.

Woking boss Garry Hill told BBC Surrey:

Hill on Woking v Southport:

“I thought we were very poor today, we gave away cheap goals and the situation at the moment we are a little bit low on confidence.

“We’ve had some injuries and some young boys but at the present time we’re not doing the basics properly.

“Disappointed to hear one or two supporters booing which I think had four or five years of the glory. At the end of the day we have to keep moving on but you can see things in people and I learnt for the first time at Woking with different things.”
