Merseyside’s premier non-league football club – Marine FC

Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Marine announces the switching of its annual golf day to Hesketh Golf Club in Southport. This is the seventeenth annual golf day to be held by Marine and is to take place on Monday 4th September 2017 at the Southport venue with enrolment starting about midday with the course approving, subject to team numbers, of either a split tee or shotgun start.

The cost per team of four has been held again at £395 and includes a 3 course evening meal at which the presentation of prizes will be made to the successful golfers.

Hesketh is the oldest golf club in Southport, established in 1885. The course is pre-dominantly links in nature and Championship golf has been played at Hesketh from the early days.

In addition to being a previous qualifying venue when The Open was played at nearby Royal Birkdale, Hesketh has hosted many other professional and amateur championships. Most recently, it hosted the Junior Open in 2008 and co-hosted the Amateur Championship with near-by Hillside in 2011.

The event starts about midday and is followed by the awards dinner and presentation of prizes. Marine Chairman Paul Leary said:

“We are really pleased that the officials at Hesketh Golf Club have agreed to host our very special fundraising day. Having visited the Clubhouse and met some of the staff we had no hesitation in formally requesting the use of the excellent venue for our golf day. The facilities and course is absolutely first class and I am sure that the change in venue to Hesketh Golf Club will provide a fresh interest in our tournament in addition to the course providing a new challenge for our golfers.”

Paul Leary added:

“I look forward to another great day for our golfers and in completely new surroundings it will give the event that extra special interest for those involved. I am sure that this new partnership between Hesketh Golf Club and Marine FC will be a success not only for our first event this September but also in future years.”
