Easier access to a wide range of volunteering in Sefton

Sefton residents will have easier access to a wide range of volunteering opportunities following the launch of a new simple online tool.

Volunteer Centre Sefton – part of Sefton CVS – has just launched its new Volunteer Connect system which features positions with organisations throughout Sefton and beyond.

The centre has more than 40 years’ experience of helping local people to find the right volunteering roles, as well as offering advice to organisations who are looking to recruit volunteers.

In the past the centre has used the national Do-It platform to promote volunteering opportunities, but it has now developed the Volunteer Connect database which has been customised to Sefton and neighbouring areas.

Would-be volunteers simply need to visit www.volunteeringsefton.org.uk and click on the Volunteer Connect icon.

After specifying their areas of interest (for example, older people or mental health), the type of work they want to do (such as counselling or gardening), and how far they’re willing to travel, the system will immediately display a list of suitable opportunities.

Mike Howlett, Sefton CVS Volunteer & Citizenship Lead, commented: “We’ve launched this new system to make it easier for Sefton residents to find volunteer roles in their local communities on the basis of their interests and location.

“We believe it’s also very timely to be launching the Volunteer Connect system in January because volunteering can help many people achieve their New Year’s resolutions.

“Whether they want to be more active, meet new people or make a difference to their local community, we have volunteer roles to suit them,” added Mr Howlett.

Meanwhile, people who are less confident about using the internet can find out about volunteering opportunities at a face-to-face appointment with Volunteer Centre Sefton.

These meetings can be held in the Sefton CVS offices in either Waterloo or Southport, but need to be booked in advance.
