Detectives are appealing for information after an armed robbery in Burscough

Around 5.30pm on Thursday (March 24), three men approached the Post Office on Liverpool Road North.

The men smashed their way into the building as three staff stood behind the counter.

Once inside, the group forced staff to hand over cash after threatening the workers with a shotgun.

The raiders fled the scene in a silver Honda civic car, later found on fire in Wheat Lane. It is thought the men then left the area in another vehicle.

All the men were wearing dark clothing and balaclavas.

Police would like to speak to several people who they believe recorded the incident on mobile phones.

Det Sgt Andy Langton, of Skelmersdale CID, said: “We are appealing for information following an armed robbery in Burscough.

“Three men have targeted the Post Office at closing time in what appears to be a well-planned raid.

“Staff members have been left very shaken in what was a traumatic ordeal and we want to find those responsible as soon as possible.

“We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who recorded the robbery on their mobile phones, with footage having appeared on social media.”

Anyone with information or a recording of the incident can contact police on 101 quoting crime reference SB1601139.

Alternatively they can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at Crimestoppers-uk.org.
