Ainsdale beach is set to close over the winter to “prevent anti-social behaviour”

Inspectors from Merseyside police have announced that Ainsdale beach will be closed over the winter months.

The announcement comes after Southport Area Committee meeting on 23th September 2015 where Neighbourhood Inspectors Jim Atherton and Graham Fisher said the closure was to ‘prevent anti-social behaviour.’

Inspector Atherton was quotes as saying: “The problem is, Sefton Council workers finish at five on the dot and leave it to us. And the reality is, we’re not there to police beaches, our job is to fight crime. It makes complete sense to close the beach throughout the colder months.

There have been reports from Sefton Council that the beach would continue to be open but the car park would close. They said: “Ainsdale beach remains fully open for visitors but due to a significant reduction in Government funding for the council, there will be no public parking on the beach from October 1.”
