10 people thrown into ice cold waters as 6 boats capsize during high winds

On Sunday 5th July 2015 Liverpool coast guard were alerted to 6 capsized ships due to high winds with 10 people being thrown overboard into the ice-cold waters of the Ribble Estuary.

The yachts were taking place Ribble Cruising Club race when the Force 6 -7 winds hit the estuary causing some of the boats to capsize.

Southport Lifeboat and the Ribble Cruising Club Rescue Boat also shared in the search for the five-metre long sailing dinghy, last reported as seen capsized with two people in the water. All other casualties were dealt with quickly with their crews being brought to the shore to get looked over by paramedics who were waiting.

The Lifeboat stayed with them for a while to make sure all was working correctly before leaving the yacht to enter Freckleton Creek.
