Young people riding bikes without lights to face penalty for Breaking the Law

22nd October 2015

Police in the area have been noticing a large amount of young people riding their bikes during the hours of darkness without any lights.

Contrary to regulation 23(1) of the Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1989 and section 91 of the Road Traffic Offenders Act 1988 it is an offence for any person to be in use of a pedal cycle without functioning front and rear lights.

You could receive an on-the-spot fixed penalty notice for failing to comply with this law.

It is in place so that you can be seen by pedestrians and other road users. Be seen, be safe!
