Woodvale Charity Censors Young Autistic Ex-Volunteer’s Criticisms

29th July 2018

The Woodvale Centre / Woodvale and Ainsdale Community Association (WACA) Facebook page recently thanked an anonymous woodchip donator. They however went on to say that they had “too much” woodchip and to check before dumping more.

WACA, who operate from Woodvale’s Meadow Lane, added that they maintain the pathways throughout the woodlands and that they want more volunteers. Our green spaces need all the help they can get so this is indeed good news.

However, an autistic Ainsdale teenage boy commented under their thread saying that he and other volunteers had worked tirelessly some years ago for the charity. He asked politely if WACA were seeking to rewrite history as he was one of the original team who created the woodland path. He went on to inform readers that the path was nothing new and that he and others were banned for daring to raise valid whistleblowing concerns about the charity’s actions.

Following the whistleblowing incident involving questionable misdirection of the Woodvale Woodland Project (WWP) in 2013, several long-standing members of the group were banned from their voluntary work after raising serious safety and insurance concerns regarding the reckless way that this WACA project was being run. The project at that time was directed by an Ainsdale Tory councillor who has since resigned his political position. Tory influence at this centre has been well-known for years.

Sefton Council, directed by Margaret Carney, constantly dismissed the whistle-blowers’ valid concerns and the issue was effectively buried, better that the KGB could ever have done so. Even ongoing cross-party support for the whistle-blowers from two deeply concerned local councillors was dismissed by the council. Basically, all WACA criticism was effectively barred proving that Sefton Council’s idea of a whistleblowing policy was as easy to find as a needle in a haystack.

Additional concerns regarding environmental actions have been highlighted before:

Latest WACA community censorship

On their website the WACA group claim:

‘We pride ourselves on being able to provide quality services for all members of the community. If you find anything that is not up to standard, or you would like to leave us positive feedback, don’t hesitate to get in touch!’

They also claim:

Woodvale and Ainsdale Community Association engaging with the local community
To bring the people of Woodvale & Ainsdale together as a community, and to provide them with as many opportunities as possible to improve their quality of life. WACA aims “to promote a safe environment for all age groups by establishing and sustaining an adequate and appropriate range of services, support and provisions for and within the community”.

Their noble comments apparently do ‘not’ apply to young autistic folk who have accurate and provable stories to tell about how WACA treat their hard-working volunteers.

The young ex-WWP volunteer’s critical observations on the WACA Facebook page (that were not in any way abusive) were quickly removed and apparently this (allegedly community-promoting) charity banned the local boy from posting further accurate criticisms on their page.

Volunteering to help promote our woodlands is a fine thing. However, the failure of some elitist groups, self-promoting individuals and closed-shop councils to accept reasonable criticism is unacceptable in modern society. Volunteers everywhere need to bear this in mind, before freely giving away their time and effort.

The term ‘Dictatorship’ is now on many lips today after hearing of this questionable conduct. Community to them is the limited community that ‘they’ create and not the real one that surrounds their building it seems.
