The emergency services were called to Liverpool Road, Birkdale shortly after 2.35pm following reports of an RTC.
Paramedics arrived at the scene and immediately treated the driver of the Mitsubishi Colt who had sustained injuries when she rear-ended a Mazda at the junction.
Police arrived at the scene a short time later and diverted traffic. The injured was taken to Southport Hospital.
