Woman killed in Ainsdale car collision

Police have confirmed a woman was sadly killed in Ainsdale yesterday when she suffered a medical episode at the wheel, causing her vehicle to collide with a parked car.

The 80-year-old female was transported to hospital by Air Ambulance but succumbed to her injuries.

Merseyside Police said: “Emergency services were in attendance in Southport following a fatal collision yesterday afternoon (Thursday 23 September).

“At around 3.10pm we received a report that a blue Honda Jazz was in collision with a parked vehicle on Burnley Road.

“The driver, female in her 80s, is believed to have suffered a medical episode at the wheel.

“She was taken to hospital in a critical condition but has since sadly passed away.

“Her next of kin have been informed.

“Road closures were in place on Burnley Road and have since been lifted.”
