A 74-year-old woman has died after she was involved in a road traffic accident in Penwortham earlier this month.

The collision happened at around 5pm on Sunday 10 May when a Honda Jazz collided with a parked car on Liverpool Road.

The driver, Betsy Lowe, from Much Hoole, suffered what were originally thought to be minor injuries. However, her condition later deteriorated and she sadly died at Royal Preston Hospital on Tuesday 19 May.

Officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward.

Sgt Claire Pearson of the Road Policing Unit said: “This is a tragic incident and my thoughts are very much with Betsy’s family and friends at this difficult time. An investigation into how the collision occurred is underway and I would urge anyone who witnessed the collision to make contact with us.”

Betsy’s husband, Paul, paid tribute to her:

“Betsy ‘Betty’ Lowe sadly passed away at Preston Hospital on Tuesday 19th May having been admitted to hospital following a road traffic collision. A retired Magistrate, she enjoyed travelling and volunteered for many local causes. She was much loved by all who knew her and will be sadly missed.”
