Merseyside Police is appealing for information following a fatal road traffic collision in Southport, last night.
At around 11.30pm, a black Peugeot 307 was travelling along Wennington Road, Southport. As the car approached the junction with Chester Avenue and Chester Road, it collided with a tree.
The driver, a 53 year old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger, a 15-year-old male, was taken to Alder Hey Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.
The woman is yet to be formally identified but her family has been informed.
Officers from the Merseyside Police Road Police Investigation Unit are investigating the collision and are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or saw the car in the Wennington Road area, immediately prior to the collision, to get in contact.
All roads have now been reopened.
