Students and staff at KGV College, Southport were celebrating yesterday following the publication of this year’s AS, A level and BTEC results. The students achieved close to 100% pass rate in A level subjects with 100 students obtaining 3 or more A* or A grades at AS and A level. Students on the BTEC courses have also enjoyed tremendous success with forty students acquiring triple distinction or distinction * grades in their BTEC Extended Diplomas.
College Principal Adele Wills commented that she is tremendously proud of the achievements of all of the students, some of whom have faced adverse circumstances but still achieved fantastic results.
Among the many individual success stories, 4 students have secured places at Oxbridge. Michael Adamson, who has played with The National Youth Orchestra, obtained 3 As and 1B grades to study Music at Oxford and Lucy Halton achieved A* and 2 A grades and will read Classics and French at Wadham College,Oxford.
Successes on the BTEC courses include Connor Jameson who achieved D*D*D* on his BTEC Sport Extended Diploma. Connor has been an integral member of the college’s hockey team whilst studying at KGV and is going on to Sheffield Hallam University where he will study Physical Education and School Sport, with the eventual aim of going into teaching.
John Rostron M.B.E Chairman of KGV’s Governing Body said “I would like to congratulate all of the students on the outstanding A level results, following on from last year when they broke the 99 % barrier the results have an overall pass rate of 99.4 %. I must also congratulate all the staff on their hard work through what are difficult times in education, but all of the students have certainly done themselves proud. Their results will stand them all in a strong position to follow their chosen careers.”
The College is looking forward to building on these successes next year, and are delighted to have received further government funding this year which has been used over the Summer break to fully refurbish the Science Labs and the Learning Support facilities for students.
