The UK has been warned of freezing conditions expected to hit the nation next week.

However, the latest forecasts from the Met Office suggest Southport residents should brace themselves only for morning frosts and the occasional flurry of sleet over the next few days.

And the saturated North West of England can expect even more rain.

Today’s showery rain should ease, but the often clear skies will allow some frost and ice to form before showers arrive by dawn, with lows of -1°C overnight.

Today (Friday 8) will see a mixture of sunny spells and scattered showers. It will be breezy with temperatures around or a little below average. Highs of 7°C.

The weekend looks to be very windy with further sunny spells and showers. And from Monday temperatures are set to drop further, and there is a possibility of snow.
