WEDNESDAY’S AREA COMMITTEE MEETING TO DISCUSS LOCAL POLICE STATIONS CLOSURES
Southport Area Committee is set to discuss the proposed closure of Southport and Ainsdale Police Stations and their replacement by ‘Community Police Stations’ this Wednesday evening.
Merseyside Police Commissioner Jane Kennedy has been invited to come and explain her ‘Estate Strategy’ by Birkdale Cllr Simon Shaw, a member of the Merseyside Police Panel, and by Cllr Sue McGuire, Chair of Southport Area Committee.
The Area Committee meeting, at Southport Town Hall, starts at 6.30pm on Wednesday 3 December, with the Police Commissioner‘s presentation, and subsequent Question and Answer session, first item on the agenda.
“I was keen that the public, as well as Southport councillors, should have a further opportunity to get more detail about these important proposals” explained Cllr Shaw.
“Many in Southport remain in the dark as to what, precisely, is meant by a ‘Community Police Station’ as that is obviously a new concept in our area.”
“I also know that many residents are concerned that the proposals could mean the permanent loss of the presently-mothballed custody suite. That has certainly been a particular concern of Southport’s MP, John Pugh.”
“I’m grateful that Commissioner Kennedy has agreed to come, and this is the ideal opportunity for concerned residents to find out more.”
