In a combined effort to recover the millions of pounds lost every year through vehicle excise duty evasion and to reduce the number of uninsured, unroadworthy vehicles on the roads of Southport the DVLA will be targeting vehicles without tax in Southport.
The above photograph shows a clamped Vauxhall in Lancaster Road, Birkdale.
Owners will have to pay a standard fee to have the clamp removed and produce a valid tax disc or a surety. If they do not do so within 24 hours, their vehicle may be taken away by the DVLA, stored, then either sold at auction or crushed if unclaimed after 14 days.
As part of the campaign, members of the public have been encouraged to call a freephone hotline to report people they believe are not paying their road tax. The number to call is 08000 325 202.
