Warning to SOUTHPORT pensioners targeted by scam mobility firm calls

14th July 2018

MOBILITY business in Southport is urging residents to beware of scammers falsely pretending to be from their firm.

Staff at Ableworld, based on Shakespeare Street, said they have recently received reports of people posing as being from the company and cold calling customers to arrange home visits.

The firm supplies products including scooters, beds and lifts for baths and stairs.

A spokeperson said: “We do not ‘cold
call’ our customers.

“If you arrange for Ableworld to visit you
within the home for a demonstration or delivery of an item, please ensure you always ask for identification.

“We don’t mind as we would prefer you are safe and happy in your own home.
“For any person who calls you or you invite to your home, always follow these simple steps.

“Don’t ever accept anyone into your
home if you have not invited them. “Arrange for a friend or relative to be with you for your pre-arranged home visit
for your peace of mind.
“If you are unsure if the visitor is genuine
ask them to wait while you call the com- pany to doublecheck.
“Ask the cold caller for their telephone number so if you do have reason to doubt them, you have a number to give to the police.”
