WARNING | Bogus workmen operating in Southport

On September 10th at a residence in Southport the owner left his property to visit the doctor. Shortly after his departure a male called at the house and informed his wife that he had been told by her husband to call at the property and cut the shrubs in the garden and he had agreed to pay them £140 when the work was completed.

Even though the wife told them that there wasn’t anything to do in the garden, the male joined by a second man spent about 20 minutes in the garden and told the wife that they would come back at a later date. The men refused payment by cheque but accepted £120 in cash.

When the husband returned home it was realised that the tale the workman had told was untrue, he had not authorised them to carry out any work in the garden.

The first male is described as white, about 30 years of age, 5’10” in height of medium to large build, dark coloured hair wearing a green top. The second male was approximately 40 years old, wearing a grey jumper and he wore glasses.

Their vehicle was a yellow and black gardening type truck with a shredder at the back.

Please be aware if you receive any cold callers at the door asking to work in your garden.
