Vandals target Bedford Park by destroying volunteer work

By On The Spot News30th July 2025

Vandals have targeted Bedford Park in Birkdale, ripping up dozens of plants and flowers from beds in the gardens.

The vandalism, which is the latest in a series of incidents, has destroyed the beds ruining hours of volunteer work which was done in a bid to make Bedford Park look more presentable.

Cllr Sonya Kelly bemoaned the latest act of vandalism saying “Once again somebody has pulled up the few flowers we have in the one and only flowerbed in Bedford Park.

“Volunteers put time, money and effort in to brightening the park, it is extremely disappointing to find the flowerbed in this state.”

There are hopes that the park will soon undergo a revival for youngsters in the area after schoolchildren levied a petition to encourage the council to build a BMX bike park there.

At a recent meeting politicians agreed to take on board the request and look into the possibility of siting a bike park in the grounds of Bedford Park.
