Vandals have caused thousands of pounds worth of damage to balustrades at King’s Gardens, Southport.

Up to 70 metres of ornamental railings were ruined at the popular park during the evening of Tuesday, November 3.

Merseyside Police has been informed of the incident and council staff are now making the area safe and looking into how to repair the damage.

ot vandalism_at_kings_gardensCllr Ian Maher, Leader of Sefton Council, said: “Sadly vandals have caused extensive damage to the balustrades near the play area causing thousands of pounds of unnecessary damage.

“Not only is this extremely disappointing for us, but it ruins it for genuine park users and we hope the public feel our frustration over this stupid act of destruction.

“King’s Gardens is a real gem in Southport following its revamp last year costing millions of pounds from external funding and we want incidents like this to stop.

“We are working closely with Merseyside Police to address this and we will be assisting them in their investigations.

“If anyone does have any information, please contact Merseyside Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
