Bricklayers are now up to the fourth floor rear extension on the New Travelodge, Lord Street, Southport.
The Grade II listed former Ribble Bus Station will be turned into a six-storey, 101-bedroom hotel & restaurant complex.
The building will also include major international restaurant with work expected to be completed early 2013 creating 20-30 new jobs.
The dilapidated eyesore was empty for more than 10 years and has been plagued by a string of failed proposals.
