UPDATE | Man fights for life after frenzied golf club attack in his Southport home

A Southport man is fighting for his life after an intruder broke into his home and assaulted him with a golf club.

Emergency services were called in the early hours of this morning to a property on Cemetery Road after a frantic 999 call.

When they arrived on scene they found a man, believed to be the homeowner, unconscious and suffering from sever head and torso wounds.

It’s believed he was the victim of a frenzied and manic golf club attack.

The victim is currently receiving life saving emergency surgery at a hospital in Liverpool.
A crime scene has been established and officers are looking for anyone with any information about the assault to come forward.
