Man arrested and further appeal for information following uncuonfirmed firearms discharge – Southport

Merseyside Police have today (Wednesday, 1 August) arrested a man in connection with an incident in Southport last week.

Following enquiries into an unconfirmed firearms discharge in Saunders Street on Thursday, 26 July, a 57-year-old man from Southport has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and theft of a vehicle.

No evidence of a firearms discharge has been found and detectives are continue to appeal for information to establish the full circumstances.

Detective Inspector Gary Stratton said: “This arrest has come from a positive line of enquiry however we are still keen to trace two men believed to be the offenders, seen in the Saunders Street area at around 7.30pm.

“The offenders are described as wearing dark clothing, helmets and riding a black moped. After firing the gun, described as a shotgun, they are believed to have fled in the direction of Albert Road. I would urge anyone who may have witnessed these men, or heard anything afterwards to please get in touch.”
