UPDATE: Appeal following attempted armed robbery
We are appealing for information after an attempted armed robbery at the Post Office in Digmoor, Skelmersdale yesterday morning (Tuesday 27th March).
Police were called at 10:10 hours to reports two men had entered the premises on Digmoor Parade and made demands for money. They originally approached from Christ the Servant church and walked around Birkrig before reaching the premises.
They entered the Post Office and were carrying what is believed to be a handgun and a machete.
The shop assistant sounded an alarm and the offenders ran from the scene empty handed. They left in the direction of Christ the Servant church.
The offenders are described as white men, in their 20s who spoke with local accents. They were wearing dark clothing and one was carrying a black Nike rucksack with white writing on it.
Following the appeal, police have now identified the people from the CCTV who they wanted to speak to as potential witnesses.
Detective Inspector Graeme Simpson of Lancashire Police, said: “This was obviously a terrifying incident for the staff and members of public who were in the Post Office at the time. Luckily nobody was harmed but we need to find those responsible. I would like to thank those who have shared our appeal so far but reiterate that our investigation is ongoing and anyone with information about the incident should contact police.”
