We are continuing to appeal for witnesses after a serious assault in Skelmersdale at the weekend, and we have made two arrests as part of our on-going enquires.

The incident occurred on Brierfield, Digmoor, Skelmersdale at around 10.30pm on Saturday 18 July.

It is known that a 50 year old Lithuanian man was walking with his son on Brierfield when they were approached by a group of young men and women. We now believe that both men were punched and the 50 year old fell to the floor as a result, causing a head injury. He remains in a serious condition in hospital.

A 16 year old boy and an 18 year old man from the local area have been arrested on suspicion of Section 18 wounding with intent and remain in custody.

DS 2402 Janette Bashall of Skelmersdale CID said: “I would urge anyone who witnessed the incident to get in touch with us as soon as possible. We know that the group who were present when this assault took place consisted of men and women. If you were part of this group it is important that you come forward and help us with our enquiries.”
