Drugs with a street value of at least £16m have been found in a house in Wavertree, south Liverpool and an apartment in Liverpool city centre during an operation by ‘Titan’, the North-west’s regional organised crime unit.

The drugs, which are believed to be cocaine, heroin and cannabis, were found in a house in Stradbroke Road, off Mendip Road, Wavertree at 2.15pm yesterday (May 16th) and at an apartment in Duke Street in the city centre later in the day by Titan detectives.

One man aged 33 from Huyton was arrested inside the house in Wavertree on suspicion of conspiracy to supply Class A drugs. A second man, aged 31, from Kirkby was arrested elsewhere in the Wavertree area during the course of the afternoon. Both have been taken to separate police stations in the region where they will interviewed by Titan investigators.

Crime scene investigators from Merseyside Police carried out an extensive forensic examination of the house and apartment. A number of vehicles were removed from outside the house including a van.

The drugs were found in the van and various parts of the house. Further drugs were found in the apartment.

A large-scale investigation led by Titan with assistance from Merseyside Police remains on-going and the house and apartment remain cordoned off.

Detective Superintendent Jason Hudson, head of operations at Titan, said: “This is a huge seizure, perhaps our largest ever, of what is estimated to be up to 160 kilos of cocaine and heroin which could have had a street value of at least £16 million, probably more.

“These drugs would have made a lot of criminals a lot of money at the expense of the harm they would have caused our communities so it is immensely satisfying to have seized them before they were supplied on the streets of the North-west.

“Today’s operation was a fast-moving and dynamic situation and Titan detectives worked with colleagues in Merseyside Police to ensure the suspects were quickly arrested and the evidence was secured.

“Titan exists to target and dismantle top tier criminal gangs who pose the greatest threat to the North-West public and whose damaging influence stretches throughout the UK and beyond. The key to our success is the work we do side by side with local police forces and national law enforcement agencies and today’s massive drugs seizure and the arrest of two men are a great example of this.”
