Train services to and from Southport disrupted after body found near tracks

Rail services to and from Southport have been disrupted after a body was found near the tracks in Crosby (Thursday 17 August 2017).

British Transport Police has confirmed that a person has died and that they are working to identify them.

Mersyrail train services had been suspended earlier this morning between Formby and Seaforth & Litherland after a driver reported seeing the body at a crossing near Brooke Road West.

Limited services will now run from Southport and Hunts Cross, coaches have been provided for passengers taking passengers around the affected stations.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: “We were called at 10.18am today to reports that a body had been seen by a train driver near the tracks in Crosby, Merseyside.

“The death is currently being treated as unexplained and we are working to establish the circumstances of how the person came to be there.

“We are working to identify the person and inform their next of kin.”
