Traffic bulletin: M6 in Cumbria re-opens following serious incident

Drivers using the M6 through Cumbria are being advised the M6 between junction 36 at Kirkby Lonsdale and junction 39 at Shap has now fully re-opened following the serious incident at lunchtime today (Wednesday 29 July).

The motorway was closed following the incident involving a motorcyclist at around 12.40pm this afternoon (Wednesday 29 July) south of junction 38 at Tebay.   A lane in each direction was re-opened at around 2.15pm this afternoon with the northbound carriageway re-opening fully at 2.40pm.    The motorway re-opened fully shortly after 3pm but with residual delays.

Drivers setting out on journeys can check travel conditions before setting out on journeys. Highways England provides live traffic information via its website www.trafficengland.com, local and national radio travel bulletins, electronic road signs and mobile platforms, such as the iPhone.  Information is also available from Twitter via @highwaysNWEST as well as services in other regions.

Providing they can do so safely, road users can also call the Highways England customer contact centre on 0300 123 5000 to keep up to date with road conditions.
