What do tourists think of Southport?

One resident says he believes the grotty sad looking town centre puts people off from ever coming back.

He said there is too much litter on Chapel Street and that he ‘dreads’ to think what people think when they visit.

He said “Once again I have been shopping in Chapel Street and Tulketh Street.

As always these streets are dirty and depressing.
At any time of the year (not just our recent dry summer) there are drink stains on the paving flags and filth under the bench seats.

“Most of the street cleaning is carried out by a motorised cleaner which cannot reach under the seating, so is it not possible for a cleaner to take a brush and shovel to clean the areas where the motor- ised cleaner cannot access?

“I dread to think what tourists and day trippers think about Southport when they visit – no doubt they will not have too many good comments to tell their friends (and potential visitors) when they go home.

“Can somebody from the cleansing department look at the state of the area and do something about it.”
