In Ainsdale Ward, Councillor Terry Jones, Leader of the Sefton Conservative Group, will be standing for re-election next month.
Jones has been an Ainsdale councillor for 12 years and seeks a further term to ensure that his Tory stronghold remains safe. Therefore, he wants YOUR vote!

Within the date range, 19/10/2018 – 13/04/2019 Jones has attended meetings at the rate of 56% as ‘Present as expected’.
Last year Jones’s colleague Councillor Simon Jamieson the Sefton deputy council leader was criticised for calling a student a ‘lefty pleb’ on Twitter. Simon Jamieson also referred to the student as a “Munster” in an apparent reference to The Munsters TV comedy.
Jamieson refused to comment on this matter and was subsequently replaced at Sefton Council in the wake of previous local elections. At the time of the Tory reshuffle Terry Jones, who was re-elected back then as the group leader, stated: “I would advise anybody with genuine concerns to follow the correct complaint procedures from both the council and the Conservative party. I was delighted to be unanimously chosen as group leader.”

Councillor Jones could never be accused of being a highly noticeable politician as many residents have stated that he is not an easy person to find. He is no stranger to controversy though.
Jones was previously accused by ex-Tory councillor Tom Glover of being again – “economical with the truth.”

Terry Jones had also previously sought to silence opposition from his local constituents when he threatened an Ainsdale family with Conservative legal action. When the family responded to his preposterous threat, Councillor Jones swiftly disappeared and the issue swiftly vanished like a wisp of morning mist.

Then we had the Tory split when councillors Jones and David Barton had fallen out about a police issue. Terry Jones told the Southport press: “We intend to fight to keep both stations for the safety of our residents and visitors alike.”
On one hand, Cllr Barton was ‘welcoming’ some indistinct new police facility; even though his leader Cllr Jones was telling residents that he will fight to “keep” the old ones.
Sometime later the split deepened
Councillor Jones suspended David Barton, pending the outcome of a lengthy fraud investigation, involving Barton’s family. Subsequently, the Southport Tories went on to distance themselves from Barton. Jones stated at that time: “In accordance with the national Conservative party rules, Cllr David Barton has been suspended pending the outcome of the case.”

Tories accused of being ‘Dementia unfriendly’
Ainsdale Conservative apathy under Councillor Jones reached new heights of disbelief during the successful community fight to keep Brookdale Resource Centre (Woodvale’s vital dementia facility) open.
Politicians from both Labour and Liberal Democratic camps arrived to show strong support for the campaign. The fightback was initiated by locals/families who were profoundly concerned for the continuation of the centre, following shameful Sefton Council threats of closure. However, Ainsdale Ward’s councillors, Terry Jones and Ted Hartill never came anywhere near the campaign or the facility. They showed no interest whatsoever in the Brookdale’s plight!

Of course, some hard-working and amicable politicians are worthy of our support. Others, that are largely invisible to the community (unless, of course, elections are near), are not fit to grace any office of public trust that we put them into.
Come May, the voters will have the opportunity to put their X in the box for a good candidate who they believe will work hard in their ward.
