Three denied murdering Stephen Maguire

Three men have denied murdering a Southport man who died after being shot at his home.

Stephen Maguire was killed when four masked thugs burst into his home in Guildford Road, Birkdale abut 11.30pm on March 16.

The men had reportedly kicked down the front door and ordered his terrified girlfriend and six-year-old stepdaughter to go upstairs.

Maguire (27) died in hospital a short time after the shooting and a post mortem examination found he died from a stomach wound.

Karl Corson, Jack Higgins and Ryan Smith appeared at Liverpool Crown Court on Thursday, June 4 and during a 45 minute hearing all denied murder.

They all also denied possessing a hand gun and ammunition – kidnapping a 16-year-old boy and 19-year-old youth and robbing Mr Maguire of three motorcycles, all on March 16.

Corson(27), of Columbine Close, Melling, Higgins(21) , of Waresley Crescent, Fazakerley, and Smith(21) of Colquitt Street, Liverpool city centre, were all further remanded in custody to await their trial, expected to last four weeks, beginning son November 16.
