The Southport squadron of the Royal Air Force Air Cadet recruitment evening

16th February 2020

The Southport squadron of the Royal Air Force Air Cadet organisation is hosting an recruitment evening later this month.

The organisation has been running for nearly 80 years and the 281 Southport Squadron, based in Birkdale, was formed over 70 years ago

It provides many transferable skills for today’s youth to set them up for life and not just to recruit them into the Forces.

A recruitment evening is being hosted at their base, St Peter’s School on Upper Aughton Road, from 7.30pm on Thursday, February 27. Both parents and potential recruits are welcome to come down, see what the RAFAC does and have the option to sign up.

A spokesman said: “From being 12 years old and in year 8, teenagers can join up and start their jouney here at squadron where they get taught a variety of skills ranging from Leadership & Teamwork, first aid qualifications, sports activities, taking part in public events, even the chance to acheive BTEC qualifications and also take part in the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme.

“We also have oportunities for cadets to go flying & gliding and also participate in shooting and archery events/competitions.”

For more information, attend the recruitment event, email OC.281@aircadets.org or call 01704 550393.
