The Howard Kendall show
The late, great Everton manager Howard Kendall will be celebrated in a new stage show next month produced and presented by Southport-based writer and broadcaster John Keith featuring three Everton legends live on stage.
And guest of honour at the Kendall’s Kings show at New Brighton Floral Pavilion will be Howard’s widow, Formby resident Lil Kendall, who has chosen the Stick ‘n’ Step charity to receive the proceeds of an interval auction of a rare signed Everton jersey from the 1985 European Cup Winners Cup Final.
Former Everton player and manager Colin Harvey, a member with Kendall and Alan Ball of the iconic title-winning Goodison midfield trio nicknamed The Holy Trinity, will join two of Howard’s great players, Peter Reid and Graeme Sharp, in the show on August 4.
“ We’re very grateful to Everton fan Roy Caine for donating the 1985 shirt and we hope it raises a big sum for the charity which supports children with cerebral palsy and also their families and carers, “ says John.
“I think it will be a very nostalgic and atmospheric evening for all Evertonians. We tell Howard’s story from his early days in the north east, his rise as a player at Preston prior to his move to Everton and then later his great period of management in the 1980s when he led the club through the most successful period in its history.
“ Colin, Peter and Graeme have some wonderful revealing anecdotes and memories of Howard and the show also includes exclusive audio clips and rolling images.”
Gill Beattie, of Liverpool-based Arts2u, who has worked with John on many shows including The Bill Shankly Story, The Dixie Dean Story and Bob Paisley: Reluctant Genius, will again be the production’s technical director.
The evening will also see the launch of a new book devoted to Everton in the 1980s titled Here We Go: The Players’ Stories, written by journalist Simon Hart and published by De Coubertin, with signed copies available.
Tickets for the show (£19 with £16 concessions) available from the Floral Pavilion box office or by calling 0151 666 0000. Also on line at: floralpavilion.com
