Sefton Council would like to thank all the volunteers who came out in numbers to support Park Volunteers Week.

For the first time, Sefton Council launched the initiative during ‘National Volunteers Week’ which ran from June 1-7.

The idea was to help promote local volunteers and to encourage others to get involved in Sefton’s parks and greenspaces by working alongside existing groups and partner agencies.

Many events took place right across the borough from litter picks to planting sessions with Friends of Groups and In Bloom Groups all getting involved with Sefton Council and many partner agencies. The week also coincided with the launch of outdoor gyms across Sefton.

More than 33 different groups took part in the initiative volunteering in excess of 800 hours of valuable time.

Cllr Ian Moncur, Cabinet Member Children, Schools, Families and Leisure, said: “This was the first year we have supported Parks Volunteers Week and such was the success I am sure we will look to do it again.

“Local volunteers, Friends of Groups and In Bloom Groups really came out in force to support the week which was really appreciated.

“I would like to thank everyone who got involved and further activities at parks across the borough with our many partners are planned in the coming months.”
