Thank you to members of the public who turned out to support the newly crowned Champions of Europe in Liverpool today

2nd June 2019

Following the Liverpool Football Club victory parade through the city after their 2-0 win against Tottenham Hotspur in Madrid last night, Superintendent Mark Wiggins, said: “During today’s homecoming more than 750,000 lined the city’s streets to welcome home the Champions of Europe.

“Again the people of Liverpool and supporters of Liverpool Football Club showed why Liverpool is one of the most vibrant cities in the country.

“The atmosphere in the city today and during last night’s Champions League Final in Madrid was palpable and the fantastic turnout was testament to those who turned out to support the team and show the city of Liverpool in a positive light around the world.

“Despite the huge crowds over both days there were only a handful of people arrested for minor offences and the feedback we have received has been very positive.”

He added: “I would like to thank our officers and special constabulary, together with our partners, including Liverpool City Council, Culture Liverpool, LFC, British Transport Police and Merseytravel, for the planning and effort they have put in to ensure the success of this event.

“And finally, I would also like to thank the public of Merseyside, and visitors to the city, who came to the Liverpool and enjoyed a memorable day out.”
