Two years after Terry Jones took over as Leader of Sefton Conservatives as well as being Southport Tory Party chairman, how is he doing?
Well, in May 2014, Terry has presided over the worst ever performance by Southport Conservatives in any election, local or national, in history as well as the poorest performance ever by Sefton Conservatives.
2014 is the only year ever that the Conservatives have come third in Southport. That is since the town was founded by WD Sutton!
Sefton Tories have now got the fewest number of councillors they have ever had since the Borough was founded in 1972.
To reduce this dwindling band even further, Councillor Tony Crabtree has ‘jumped ship’ and joined the Labour Party. Councillor Crabtree had taken a different view to Councillor Jones over the Woodvale Woodland Project scandal.
Pat Regan, editor of the Woodvale Woodland Project website has written:
“We must also thank Cllr Tony Crabtree for endeavouring to help us to challenge the unjust actions of Sefton Council against our team. Cllr Crabtree has kindly written in our defence to Council officers several times after carefully examining the evidence at hand.”
The owner of the ukipcandidate.com
website is parading around town calling himself ‘Conservative Duckett for Southport’.
To cap everything, Terry Jones has managed to lose Ainsdale Ward, once Brenda Porter’s Conservative heartland. 2014 is the only year in the past decade that anyone other than a Conservative has won Ainsdale Ward other than in the special circumstances of a general election.
It is understandable, therefore, that people are asking whether the Southport Conservative Party is to be re-branded as the ‘Midsummer Night Garden Party’. They might be more successful under that name?
