Taxis fume at less than fare deal over Lord Street closure

Taxi drivers say they’ve lost so much revenue from the closure of Lord Street that some are considering packing up for good.

Trade has been on a steady decline in Southport for private hire drivers for the last few years, however this six week closure imposed on Lord Street has served only to damage the industry further.

Yesterday OTS News filmed video footage showing Lord Street completely desolate. And it’s not only businesses and shop owners furious at the closure.

One cab driver, who didn’t want to be named for fear of reprisal from his bosses, said: “Yesterday was the quietest day I’ve had in two years and nobody wants to work the nights, but now we’re all considering taking sick spewing drunks who may not even pay than not having a job at all.

“This is crippling to our work and nobody wants to get a cab anyway these days, so this is just going to be the straw that broke the taxi’s back.”
