Suspect detained after town centre chase

A police helicopter has been called as part of a manhunt in Southport town centre this evening.

Four marked police vehicles and two unmarked cars were called just before 4 pm to Southport town centre as officers chased a suspect through Chapel Street and Eastbank street.

An NPAS police helicopter was brought in as part of the chase, helping to track the suspect to the junction of Eastbank Street and Talbot Street.

Officers caught up with the unidentified individual after they tried to escape through a side street toward Tulketh Street.

An update from Merseyside Police is expected later this evening.
