Supermarket evacuated after ‘bomb scare’ suspect package

17th December 2020

Staff at a Formby supermarket have been praised for following strict health and safety guidelines and evacuating their store after a suspicious package was left in the building.

Police were called to Waitrose Formby this afternoon around 3.10pm after staff raised the alarm following a suspicious package which had been delivered.

Diligent staff immediately sounded the alarm and management made the decision to ask customers to leave before police arrived on scene as a precaution.

Officers from Merseyside Police responded almost immediately to the concerns and made the area safe.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police told OTS: “We were called at 3.10pm today, Thursday 17th December, following concern about a package that had been delivered to the Waitrose store on Three Tuns Lane in Formby the previous day.

“Officers attended and examined the package which was found not to be suspicious and the matter was stood down.”
