Strong Start for Southport Hockey

This past weekend saw the league season officially start for five of Southport’s teams. With 4 of the 5 fixtures being played at our temporary home, Ormskirk High School.
The ladies 1st XI unfortunately fell on the wrong side of a 5-3 scoreline. Promising signs though as the half time score was 2-2. Goals coming from R. Hughes (2) and R. Utterson.
H. Williams captained the ladies 2nd XI to a 6-0 victory over Clitheroe and Blackburn Northern Ladies. Williams scoring 4 herself was also helped by two more goals to help secure all 3 points.
The Mens 1st XI got the season off to a great start with a 10 goal thriller coming out victorious with a 7-3 scoreline v Rochdale. A number of scorers helped with the goal fest  including B. Taylor, G. Caton, C. Jameson, S. Harris-Wright, B. Coulthurst and J. Caton (2). Despite it only being the one game in the 1st XI currently sit top of table.
G. Finegans 2nd XI also got their season of to a winning start. A journey up to Windermere Mens 2nd XI ended in a 4-3 victory. With goals coming from G. Finegan, J. Finegan, J. Crowder-Barton and C. Williams.
The Beavers played out a 2-2 draw against Lymm to finish the days fixtures. Some good hockey on show all day with a total of
