Storms Hinder Road Line Repainting

Bad weather and traffic congestion have led to long delays in repainting road markings on Duke Street Councillor David Barton has revealed.

Cllr Barton has been in dialogue with council officers about this issue since before Christmas.

He said: “I’ve been chasing this for some time now and the council officers have informed me that they struggled to do this work before Christmas for a variety of reasons.

“They have told me that numerous attempts have been made to have all outstanding road markings reinstated. The main problem we had this year was the sheer amount of sites to get through and the turn in the weather.

“However, poor weather, parked vehicles and traffic management restrictions have contributed to the delay and they told me that they anticipated completion in January 2016.

“Their latest message on the subject told me that due to the restricted working conditions/ obstructions their contractor has had to encounter, the arrangement of “No Parking” restrictions will have to be imposed and this is currently being discussed with their Traffic Services Team to implement.

“I would like to assure residents that I am working hard to get this issue resolved. However contrary to what some councillors seem to believe the local Council cannot do much about the weather conditions we have experienced recently which have included multiple intense storms.”
